Introducing the Academi.cx API

Bring AI detection and Turnitin similarity checks into your application, with structured results, report downloads, and usage-based pricing.

You can now bring Academi.cx into your own application. Our API gives you access to AI detection and Turnitin similarity checks through a single integration, with structured results you can use to display scores, highlight text, and build document review into your workflow.

Submit text or a file, choose the checks you need, and retrieve the results when processing finishes. You can run AI detection, similarity, or both on the same document.

One request to POST /api/v1/checks with products "ai" and "similarity" returns two results: an AI detection card with highlighted text and a 38% AI score, and a Turnitin similarity card with numbered sources and a PDF report.

One API, two ways to check

AI detection

AI checks return sentence-level scores, text highlights, and page positions in JSON. That gives your application the information it needs to show readers which parts of a document were flagged and where they appear.

Turnitin similarity

Similarity checks return matched sources and highlights in JSON, along with a Turnitin PDF report when the check succeeds. You can display the matches in your own interface and make the report available to download. The API overview explains what each product returns.

From document to result

Start by creating a check with text, a file, or a direct upload ID. The API returns a check ID while the document is processed. Your application can use that ID to follow its progress and retrieve the completed result.

For automatic updates, configure a webhook to notify your application when processing finishes. Polling is also available, including a summary response for status checks. The quickstart walks through a first request, and the webhook guide covers completion notifications.

If you request both products and only one succeeds, the successful report is still available. Including an idempotency key also lets you retry a request without creating a duplicate check or charge.

Pay for the checks you run

API usage is paid from a prepaid balance, separately from your website subscription. All prices are in USD.

  • AI detection: $0.02 per 100 words, rounded up to the next 100-word block, with a minimum charge of 1,000 words ($0.20).
  • Turnitin similarity: $1.25 per document, including the structured result and Turnitin PDF when the check succeeds.

For example, a 3,000-word document costs $0.60 for AI detection or $1.85 for both AI detection and similarity. The two products are billed separately, and any product that fails to produce a report is refunded. See API pricing for the full breakdown.

Supported documents and limits

The API accepts PDF, DOC, DOCX, and TXT files between 125 and 50,000 words. Files up to 4 MB can be submitted directly with a check. For larger files, the direct upload flow supports up to 50 MB. Documents with images of text are not supported.

Each account can have up to 25 checks running at once. Review the limits and best practices before connecting your application.

Get started with the API

  1. Create an API key. Open API in your dashboard and copy the key when it appears. It is only shown once, so store it securely on your server.
  2. Add API balance. Top up in the same dashboard before submitting a check. Website subscriptions do not fund API requests.
  3. Run your first check. Follow the quickstart to submit a document, save its check ID, and retrieve the result.

Open the developer dashboard to create your key, or explore the API documentation for request examples and the full endpoint reference.
